An exploding box card provides a unique greeting while doubling as the perfect packaging for handmade jewelry or other small gifts.
To make an exploding box card, you'll need one sheet of 12 x 12 inch patterned paper for the box lid and three sheets of coordinating 12 x 12 inch patterned paper for the inside.
Draw a grid on first sheet of your 12 x 12 inch paper so you have nine squares each measuring 4 inches.
Cut the second sheet of paper to measure 11 1/4 x 11 1/4 inches. Draw a grid on the paper so you have nine squares each measuring 3 3/4 inches.
Cut the third sheet of paper to measure 10 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches. Draw a grid on the paper so you have nine squares each measuring 3 1/2 inches.
Cut the corner squares out of each grid as shown.
Score your paper so the sides will fold up. You can ink the edges of your paper or round the corners if desired.
Stack your squares from largest to smallest. Add a bit of glue to the middle of each sheet.
Add a message to the middle of your card using stickers, rub-ons, or your own handwriting.
Add photos, stickers, or other embellishments to the sides of your card.
Fold the box lid from a sheet of 12 x 12 inch patterned paper using the instructions in the LoveToKnow Origami Box Instructions slideshow. Decorate as desired.
Place a bracelet, piece of candy, or other small gift into the middle of your card. Fold up the sides, then place the lid on the top of your box. When the recipient opens your box, the pages will seem to "explode" from the center.
