If you're making a tassel with a wooden top, try drilling a small hole in the top as shown in this tassel tutorial.

Any suggestions for how to attach a tassel to a ceiling fan? I currently use the pull chains that it came with.

Daniel,

Generally, cotton, rayon or silk thread is easier to trim when it's wet. This will help keep little threads from flying away and escaping your scissors. Keeping the threads centered, rather than spread out, on your form while wrapping the tassel should also help keep it more even.
