Valentine's Day Crafts
From LoveToKnow Crafts
Valentine's Day crafts are the perfect gift to offer a loved one. Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love, and there is no better way to celebrate your loved ones than giving them homemade gifts from the heart. Here are some quick ideas for gifts you can make for your sweetie or anyone else who needs a lift on Valentine’s Day. (For crafts for kids, visit Valentine Crafts for Kids.)
Valentine's Day Crafts: Love coupons
A really simple, quick Valentine’s Day present that your loved one is sure to love is a Valentine coupon book. All you have to do is make some coupons on your computer, print them out and bind them in a little book.
There are places online you can find sample coupons, such as these from Woman’s Day, and that’s a great start. But why not add your own special spin to the coupon book?
Think about chores in your household that no one likes to do. Volunteer to wash your spouse’s car, or take the kids out for dinner one night so that your beloved can have a few hours of peace at home?
Add a coupon for a free bubble bath, a month of making lunches for the kids, or whatever you think your spouse would really appreciate. The tasks don’t have to be unpleasant for you, but they should be things that will make your sweetie smile.
Finish off the book with a cardboard or card stock cover. Staple it or punch holes in the cover and thread ribbon or raffia through the holes. Decorate the cover with stickers, stencils or rubber stamps.
Valentine's Day Crafts: Spa Day
Giving your loved one a relaxing day at the “spa” doesn’t have to cost a fortune when you make a couple of spa goodies by hand.
It couldn’t be easier to make bath salts, which re very relaxing to throw in a hot bath and the end of a hard day. Just mix one cup Epsom salt with one cup baking soda. Add a tablespoon of glycerin (for softer skin) and five to ten drops of food coloring. Mix well, so the color is distributed evenly. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil if you like as well. Put in a decorative glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Instruct the recipient to use three to five tablespoons per bath.
Another great bath treat is a milk bath. This mixture can be as simple as two cups of powdered milk and two or three drops of your favorite essential oil mixed together. You could also add ¼ cup of oatmeal to soothe rough skin, a handful of your favorite dried herbs, ½ cup of Epsom salt and/or baking soda, even a splash of olive oil.
Use a cup or so in each bath and remind the recipient to use a drain basket to catch any solid parts that you included in your recipe.
Other great homemade treats for a spa-inspired Valentine’s Day craft include soaps (you can make melt and pour soaps very quickly and easily—check out Soap Making Recipe for more information) and candles (Beeswax Candles are a breeze to make).
Valentine's Day Crafts: Hearts Everywhere
Of course the traditional Valentine’s Day crafts would have to include hearts, and there are all sorts of options for how you might use a heart to decorate something that would be useful all year long. Here are some quick ideas:
- Cut out a heart shape and appliqué it to a canvas tote bag or T-shirt. Or make a set of place mats with heart shapes appliquéd or ironed on.
- Make a mosaic heart using shards of pottery or broken dishes (you can also buy mosaic bits at the craft store). Glue the shards in a heart shape to the side of a terra cotta pot, or make a trivet or a wall hanging. Another great idea is to buy a kit for making stepping stones and make a heart-shaped design.
- Make hearts out of wire to decorate a Valentine’s Day tree (make them out of red and pink wire for even more fun).
- Paint or decoupage hearts on just about any type of craft wood item you can find at the craft store, from picture frames to recipe boxes, benches to trunks.
