Sympathy Card

From LoveToKnow Crafts

When someone you love is going through a painful time, sending a handmade sympathy card is a great way to let him/her know you care.

Sending a handmade card is a thoughtful gesture when someone you care about is dealing with the loss of a loved one.

Creating a Meaningful Sympathy Card

A card offering your sympathy after a loss should be tasteful and subdued. Neutral colors and soft pastels are typically the most appropriate choices. Simple graphics, such as a peaceful landscape or bouquet of flowers, are best.

When designing your card, start with a short saying or quote and add your own thoughts. Don’t worry about sounding like a professional writer. Thoughtful words that come from your heart will be the greatest comfort you can give during this difficult time. Share positive memories of the deceased and express your sorrow over the loss. Don’t worry about writing a lengthy letter; one or two paragraphs is probably sufficient.

You may have noticed that many condolence cards you see for sale in stationary stores have religious undertones. However, don’t force yourself to offer religious guidance in your handmade card if you’re not normally a spiritual person. You’ll only come across as insincere.

Although it’s best to send a card as soon as you learn of a loved one’s loss, don’t worry about sending a card too late. Your good wishes will be appreciated regardless of when they arrive.
