Sample Summer Crafts
Here are some sample summer decorative crafts for your enjoyment. Both of these crafts would be fun to work on with your kids.
Rock Garden
Take a walk with your family and search for rocks. Treat it like a treasure hunt and have give each kid a basket or bag for rock collecting. Look for interesting shapes and colors. Make the rock hunt fun and pretend that you are hunting for elves and faeries.
Once you have a sizeable collection of rocks, bring the rocks home and clean them off. Work with the natural rocks or decorate them. If you decorate them, you can create little characters. Have the kids glue rock shapes together in animal shapes and paint the rocks. You can even add fabric or pipe cleaners to create different looks.
When the rocks are ready for display, create a rock garden in your backyard or around an indoor plant. Outdoor rock gardens look great lining fences. You can make also special rock garden arrangements using sand for indoors or outdoors.
Painted Flower Pot
You can create a lovely summer table decoration by decorating an ordinary flower pot. Sketch out your design for the flower pot on a piece of paper. Take a standard size terra cotta pot and sand away any rough spots. Next, spray the inside of the pot with two or three coats of oil-based polyurethane. Paint the outside of the pot with 3 coats of latex or acrylic paint. Add any designs. After the paint dries, seal the outside with water-based polyurethane to seal it. Let the flower pot dry overnight. You can later add other designs elements like ribbon. Put a plant in the pot after the flower pot is completely dry.
