Review: Sew Easy™ Knitting Machine
Does anyone remember having a Barbie that came with a miniature knitting machine? This is just like that!!!
OK, well, not exactly like that, but very close. The Sew Easy™ Knitting Machine is large enough to make skinny scarves and leg warmers in the round. It also has a setting to make flat panels, which you can sew together. This creates many possibilities like hats, blankets and sweaters.
This knitting machine works in the round and has a handle you turn. This makes it much quicker and simpler than using a Knifty Knitter loom, which has pegs that you have to hook separately by hand. The Sew Easy™ Knitting Machine is quite easy to use, with clear assembly and operation instructions. It also comes with two balls of furry yarn. Its great for kids and adult kids. Thumbs up from me :)
Things to be aware of:
Losing your initial loops and getting a run. I recommend using plain a yarn of a different color for the first row, so then you can find where to thread back through this row to secure it.
Remember to pull the work down so it doesn't get caught back up in the spindles.
Remember to thread the machine properly through the front feed and check for tightness as the yarn is pulling through, so that it does not knot and break the machine.
You can buy this knitting machine at Michaels and other craft stores.
Comments
Dan,
As you can see from our other reader comments, it appears that several people disagree with our original writer's assessment of the Sew Easy Knitting Machine. If your daughter is interested in learning to knit, you may have better luck helping her find one of the instructional books listed on the Woolworks Web site.

-- Contributed by: DanahindersI am a Dad who just spent two hours of frustration with my daughter trying to get this machine to work. I have never knitted before so obviously I am unfamiliar with some of the basic concepts of starting and stopping a project. I found the instructions very unhelpful. It seems that along with most products made in China, the writers of these instruction booklets also have English as a second or third language. I need some kind of Knitting for idiots instruction. Actually, what would be best is some sort of instructional DVD even one online. Each time we would make a tubular project it would unravel on both ends despite my trying to tie a knot. I am sure its because I don't understand loops and hooks. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
