Quotes for Scrapbooking
From LoveToKnow Scrapbooking
A great way to add a little something extra to your scrapbook pages is by adding quotes, words or sayings written in a pretty font. Using these words as part decoration and part journaling can add a lot of flair to an otherwise boring picture page. But where can you find quotes to use in your scrapbooks, and how can you present them on the page?
Sources for Quotes
If you’re looking for general quotes about all sorts of topics, look to a basic book of quotes. The great thing about the Internet is you don’t even have to own a book of quotations to find a lot of great quotes.
From just one Internet book site, Bartelby, you can access a handful of great quote books, including:
- Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations
- The Columbia World of Quotations
- Simpson’s Contemporary Quotations
- Respectfully Quoted: A Dictionary of Quotations
- Or search all four books at once using this link
Search for topics like love, friendship, home, family, vacation, work, or whatever else your page might be about.
Just as an example, you will find 194 quotes involving Christmas if you search the four above books. Not all of them would be appropriate for your scrapbook, of course, but there are some potentially useful ones, such as those from songs and poems.
Quotes Specifically for Scrapbooking
The problem with some of the above sources is simply that the quotes are really long. If you’re looking for a quote or phrase that can easily be used for a title or your main journaling on a page, you might want to seek out quotes specifically gathered for scrapbooking.
A wonderful source for scrapbooking quotes is Think Exist, which has a huge collection of quotes divided into sections such as love, friendship, holidays, babies, weddings, birthdays, children and pets. Many of these quotes are short and would be quite useful for scrapbooking.
Quote Garden has an extensive searchable database of quotes (also neatly arranged in a dizzying number of categories) that could easily be used in scrapbooks. There are even quotes about scrapbooking!
For links to rhymes, poems and quotes from around the web, visit Rubber Stamping Links. And don’t miss Quote Mountain, where you can even sign up for a quote of the day e-mail.
Other Quote Sources
There are now books on the market that include quotes specifically designed for scrapbookers, and you can also find stickers and rubber stamps with short quotes, phrases or inspirational words on them that can be stamped or stuck right to your pages.
Look for these items on the sticker or stamp aisle of your favorite craft store, or visit a store dedicated to scrapbooking for even more possibilities.
Using Quotes in Scrapbooking
Short quotes or phrases can be used as titles for your pages. Write the words out in nice handwriting, or use your computer to display the words in a pretty font (you can print the words on card stock and mount the whole piece of paper on your page or very carefully cut the letters out). Or spell it out in stickers. Or use a stencil.
Longer quotes can be treated as journaling, simply written or typed on a pretty piece of paper, maybe mounted on another piece of paper and pasted into the book. Or use them however you would like.
With the right words and a little creativity, you can make quotes the focal point of your pages.
