Quilting Podcasts
From LoveToKnow Crafts
Quilting and the technology of the Internet have been joined together by modern day quilters in the form of quilting podcasts. These podcasts are an invaluable resource for quilters of all levels--bringing them techniques, tips, ideas and inspiration to further their craft.
Quilting Stash - The First Podcast for Quilters
The first quilting audio podcast began on April 9, 2005 when Annie Smith turned on her microphone and broadcast Quilting Stash to her listeners. Annie, an avid quilter, lecturer, instructor and author began bringing quilting news and information to quilters worldwide. With well over 100 podcasts, Quilting Stash is one of the top resources for quilters on the Internet. Set into a blog format, you can hear Annie’s expert information by clicking on the podcast button at the top of her blog Simple Arts. There are links to all the past episodes, a listing of events of interest to quilters, a gallery and many more topics of interest to quilters.
The Growth of Audio and Video Podcasts for Quilters
During the next few years more audio podcasts centered on the world of quilting began airing on the Internet and with them came a few video podcasts for quilters. Video podcasts allow the audience to see, as well as hear, the broadcasts. Quilters from all over the world are now able to watch as quilting techniques were demonstrated and patterns and ideas were shared.
Audio Podcasts for Quilters

Among the areas she covers are instructional topics, quilting events and interviews with others in the quilting world. There are excellent additional resources including block patterns, questions and answers, quilting trips and autographed books by Alex Anderson. Video podcasts offer quilters the opportunity to see demonstrations of quilting techniques, view completed quilts and watch interviews of other quilters as they share their expertise. These podcasts, also known as vodcasts and vidcasts, offer all the advantages of audio podcasts plus the extra benefit of viewing the broadcast.
The following are several of the video podcasts offered for quilters:
- Bonnie's Creative Quilting Adventures by Bonnie McCaffery features interviews with top quilters that share techniques that include:
- Collage techniques by Ellen Linder

Final Thoughts
As more quilters turn to the Internet for quilting instruction, ideas and advice, there will most likely be an increase in the number of podcasts available. Both Annie Smith of Quilting Stash and Alex Anderson of Quilt Connection have spoken in the past of having their excellent quilting podcasts add video to their episodes. The future of podcasts for quilters looks bright as these crafters embrace the Internet and technology to bring them together.
