Free Sewing Patterns
From LoveToKnow Crafts
Learning how to sew and finding free sewing patterns has never been easier thanks to the Internet. Here are some great places to visit for more information and free sewing patterns.
Craft and Fabric Links
If you’re a true beginner, the place you will want to start is the free sewing book at Craft and Fabric Links. This great little ten chapter book will show you all the basics of choosing a pattern, setting up your machine, sewing and more.
Once you’re done learning the basics, check out their free sewing patterns. This page includes projects for pets, holidays, babies, quilts, household items and much more. The patterns provide tons of pictures and really show you how to do all the techniques involved, so it’s great for beginners.
Free Sewing Patterns at All Crafts
The folks at All Crafts have developed great lists of links that will help you learn how to sew and provide you with just about all the free sewing projects you could ever need.
These free sewing projects come from all over the web. There are fun and easy projects as well as purses, clothes, home décor, baby and child sewing and holiday items.
Craft Freebies
A similar site that offers free sewing patterns is Craft Freebies. This site collects other sites’ sewing patterns from around the web and makes it easier for you to find what you are looking for.
There are some repeats between the two sites, but it’s worth it to check out both, particularly if you are interested in quick, easy no sew or low-sew fleece patterns.
Diane’s Crafts
Another site that offers a collection of free sewing patterns from around the web is Diane’s Crafts. This site has lots of cute little projects like Mason jar covers, checkbook covers, dish towels, easy blankets and more.
Free Appliqué
If you’re interested in learning more about appliqué, either to make quilt blocs or add an embellishment to a finished project such as a denim shirt or a pillow, the free sewing patterns at Free Appliqué can’t be beat.
These projects mostly involve finished (store-bought) shirts and sweatshirts that are embellished with appliquéd flowers, hearts, stars, animals and more. But you could always take these patterns and appliqué the design on something else. Let your imagination run wild!
All Free Crafts
All Free Crafts uses a somewhat liberal definition of sewing, as this page includes quilting and sewing projects as well as cross stitch projects.
Still, you will find some good projects here, especially if you are looking for free vintage sewing projects. One of the patterns here, from 1904, suggests filling pillows with clover. It seems like a wonderful idea even today.
Other interesting projects included on this site are a life-size hound dog, a rice “water bottle” and a clothes pin bag.
Voor Nop baby patterns
Voor Nop baby patterns offers free online printable patterns for sewing baby clothes. You'll find patterns for newborns up to toddlers here, and useful suggestions for recycling your own t-shirts and old sweaters by sewing them into comfortable baby clothing.
Coats & Clark
Coats & Clark, maker of fine thread, offers a handful of free sewing patterns on its website. Most of these are quite easy projects that even beginning sewers could complete.
If you have a baby or know someone who does, you’ll want to look at the adorable holiday bibs featured here as well.
Comments
Nikki,
I believe the tops you are referring to are more commonly known as tube tops. Try the tube top and shorts on the Craft Zine site to start your project.

Not all of the patterns are free, but Creative Arts and Crafts for Dog Lovers has several outfits you can make for your dog. Noppa's Sewing Club also has a free simple sewing pattern for a dog coat that might interest you.
