Making Your Own Cards Using Templates
The following are all templates to use as elements in making your own cards. To make these, you will need paper crafting supplies such as:
- Card stock
- Cutting board
- Rotary cutter (not necessary but extremely helpful)
- Scrapbooking paper in a variety of colors
- Scrapbooking notions (optional)
Templates for Basic Shapes
Templates for design elements within a card are also available. A giant circle here, or a square framed photo there and you have a card that’s uniquely you. To use these templates:
- Print the page on card stock. (You can print on regular paper but will find it easier to use if the template is stiff.)
- Select the size shape you want to use and cut it out. If you want to use several shapes as a repeating design element, create your largest shapes first and then cut to the next size.
- Transfer your circle onto card making paper.
Doing this will allow you to use several sizes from the same template.
Templates for Whole Cards
Print templates for whole cards on card stock and then use them to design the entire card. If you want to design the card with scrapbook paper, follow these steps:
- Print the card on regular printing paper.
- Cut the card out.
- Layer the card on top of your scrapbooking paper, trace along the edges and then cut the card out.
- With the printed template laying directly on top of the scrapbook paper, fold according to the directions.
Doing this will yield a unique background for your card.
Unique Shaped Cards
Shaped card templates are all 'cut out' templates. You will need to print the template on card stock and then cut it out to get the shapes.
- Perfume Bottle Card-This is a 'lift the flap' type card.
- Women's Purse A unique card template for a woman.
Envelopes
Of course, every card needs an envelope. Print these on colored paper that matches your card and fold according to directions. You may also need clear adhesive.
- Create-Your-Own Envelope Template-You can alter the size of this template easily by using your photocopier resizing function.
Making Your Own Cards
Hand made cards using free card making templates are easy to do. They are a great way to let anyone know you're thinking of them regardless of the occasion. Making them on your own is more frugal than buying them in the store. Furthermore, it's always more sentimental to add your own personal touches..
