Easy baby quilt patterns allow even the novice quilter to create beautiful quilts for baby showers and other occasions. Because these quilts are small, they go together quickly and can often be finished in a weekend.

Four Square Blocks

One of the easiest quilts of all can be created from 12 Four Square blocks. Each block is made up of four squares sewn together. The squares can be made all the same or you can use several different colors. The look of the quilt will be different depending on whether you decide to use solid fabrics, print fabrics, or a combination of the two.

  • This 36 x 36 inch quilt is made up of 12 Four Square blocks with a contrasting border.
  • Hush Lil Baby is a crib size quilt which utilizes both Four Square and Hourglass blocks. This combination gives it a more intricate look, but the project still retains the simplicity of the Four Square block pattern.
  • Another Four Square quilt, this one is made with three different colored prints.
  • This Four Square quilt uses only two fabrics. The combination of floral and gingham patterns is fresh and sweet.

Bow Tie Blocks

Bow Tie blocks go together much like the Four Square blocks do. This pattern looks difficult, but don’t let that fool you. The instructions for this baby Bow Tie block quilt are very straightforward and easy to follow.

Each block is six inches square, so plan on making at least 36 blocks total. You can mix and match colors and patterns any way that pleases you. This simple pattern would be beautiful done in an Amish quilt style with a combination of dark and bright fabrics.

Log Cabin Blocks

Log Cabin blocks are quick and easy baby quilt patterns. The blocks are just strips of fabric cut in various lengths and sewn together. In some cases, like the Rail Fence pattern, the strips are all the same length. They are easy to make because all of the sewing is done in straight lines.

  • Flower Box baby quilt uses a patterned fabric for the center square.
  • The Rail Fence is a variation on the log cabin design. This easy quilt is perfect for a beginner, yet looks like it was difficult to make.
  • Mine Shaft is a variation on the Rail Fence quilt block. It is made up in three colors, generally a dark, a medium, and a light.

Homemade Activity Quilt

An activity quilt is a great project. Each block has a different activity for baby to do. These quilts keep babies occupied for relatively long periods of time and are great shower gifts.

  • Primary colors make up the different blocks on this activity quilt, while the border is in a bold black and white print. It is made from nine colorful blocks and a border. Each block has a different activity for baby to do. You can make the quilt as suggested or substitute other items to make the activity blocks interesting. Just remember that babies put things in their mouths! Any embellishment that is added to the quilt should be child safe.
  • Get a head start on reading by making baby this colorful alphabet quilt. Letters are cut from bright fabric prints and the quilt is embellished with stars.
