Designer Style Jewelry: Techniques and Projects for Elegant Designs from Classic to Retro begins by providing an overview of the tools and supplies you will need to complete the book’s sample projects. Many of these items can be found at Hobby Lobby, Michaels Crafts, or other large craft stores. However, Haab has also provided an appendix that lists her favorite online sources for purchasing jewelry making tools and supplies.

Many people associate handmade jewelry with beaded necklaces and other similar projects. However, there are a number of different materials that can be used to create beautiful and stylish jewelry. For example, the same rubber stamps, paper punches, and family photos you might use to create a layout for your scrapbook can become part of a clear bauble bracelet or shrink plastic earrings.

The sample projects included in Designer Style Jewelry cover a wide range of styles and techniques. In the book, you’ll learn to create:

  • Wire jewelry
  • Crocheted jewelry
  • Shrink art jewelry
  • Polymer clay jewelry
  • Resin jewelry
  • Retro picture jewelry

Many of Haab’s projects have a fresh, fun, and casual feel—making them appealing to both the young and the young at heart. Several pieces feature flowers or hearts and bright colors are one of her trademarks.

Although Designer Style Jewelry is written to be accessible to novice jewelry makers, experienced crafters will find plenty of innovative ideas for their own projects. Many of Haab’s designs can be easily modified to suit your own personal tastes.
