Mother's Day, observed the second Sunday in May, is a day created to honor all the hard work mothers do in raising their children. The official celebration of the day is credited to Anna Jarvis, who trademarked the phrase and created the Mother's Day International Association in 1912. Ms. Jarvis drew her inspiration from ancient celebrations of motherhood in Greek and Roman cultures, as well as her own mother's firm belief that the contributions of all mothers deserved to be celebrated on a regular basis. President Woodrow Wilson signed the resolution that made Mother's Day an official holiday in the United States on May 8, 1914.
