Christmas Craft Supply
From LoveToKnow Crafts
Many crafters love Christmas craft supplies above all other potential projects, and with good reason. There are so many opportunities for crafting that come around the holidays; you could actually spend all year crafting for Christmas and never get bored or run out of things to do. This kind of dedication requires a good source of Christmas craft supplies, however, so here's a rundown of some of the most popular Christmas crafts and how you can get your hands on the goods.
Christmas Ornaments Supplies
Probably the most popular homemade Christmas craft is making Christmas tree ornaments. From the little clay sculptures we all made in grade school to Shrinky Dinks, beaded ornaments and the hundreds of variations on the glass ball ornament, not to mention all the things you can do with a basic foam ball, homemade Christmas ornaments are a charming addition to your holiday décor.
Here are some sources for Christmas craft supplies having to do with ornaments:
Christmas Stocking Supplies
Another great Christmas craft is making Christmas stockings. Stockings can be knit, crocheted, sewn or made with embroidery or needlepoint. These crafts are sure to become treasured heirlooms. My grandmother made knitted Christmas stockings for all the grandchildren; now my mom is hard at work spreading the stockings to the next generation of babies.
Here are some places to look for stocking Christmas craft supplies:
- Woodworker's Auction has a good supply of stocking kits, from needlepoint to appliqué.
- Century Novelty has a couple of cute kits with pre-made stockings, which would make quick and easy holiday gifts.
- Salt and Pepper has numerous cross stitch and embroidery Christmas stockings.
Fabric Craft Supplies
Once the tree and the stockings are taken care of, there is the rest of the house to consider. From decorative pillows to tablecloths, runners, napkins and wall hangings, there are many options for crafters, and many ways to use Christmas craft supplies. If you supply the imagination, here are some places to find great Christmas fabrics:
- Christmas cloth has an amazing selection of Christmas fabrics, kits, panels and projects. Use a ready-made panel to make a quick quilt or wall hanging, or buy some fat quarters and design your own holiday decorations.
- J&O Fabrics has a cute selection of Christmas fabrics, including fabrics with cats, Betty Boop, and Santa on a Harley as well as more traditional patterns.
- Arlington Fabric has a smaller selection but still some nice choices. A half-yard minimum is required when buying online.
- Quilt Scapes has several different collections of holiday fabrics for all of your home décor needs. This site also has a half-yard minimum.
- Lace and Fabric has some adorable choices that would be great for kids Christmas crafts.
- The Calico Cat has many lovely fabrics that would be great for your holiday tablecloth and napkins. The store also features holiday flannels, which would be perfect for a snuggly quilt. A quarter-yard minimum is required, making this the ideal place to shop for small quantities.
Wreath Supplies
Of course not all holiday decoration has to do with fabric. Holiday wreaths and swags are also an important part of your Christmas crafting supplies. Here are some sources for greenery, ribbons and other supplies for wreath-making:
- Maine Wreath Co. sells all the supplies you need to make your own wreath, as well as the bases you can embellish to make a wreath your own. They sell balsam wreaths as well as birch twig wreaths, even some interesting ones made out of feathers.
- Santa's Supplies is a wholesale floral and wreath supply outlet with a minimum order of $50. Her you can find wreath bases, ribbons, flowers and much more.
- Save on Crafts has a good selection of wreath-making supplies as well as finished wreaths that you can buy and embellish with their fruit and berry picks and other baubles.
- Maine Accents sells kits for making wreaths with balsam branches, or you can buy individual boughs (in one-pound or 10-pound boxes) to make your own sweet-smelling swags. They even sell pine needles you can use in potpourri!
Christmas Craft Supplies and Gifts
This article has mostly focused on making crafts for yourself, but you can always give the finished crafts as presents, or even give the tools to make a Christmas craft as a present. Giving someone the tools to make their own crafts can make Christmas afternoon a little more fun when everyone is looking for something to do besides watch television and eat.
Next Christmas, why not think about giving several members of your family the supplies to make some great Christmas crafts? Who knows, you might just get "re-gifted" in a good way.
Comments
Karen and Connie,
Unfortunately, LoveToKnow Crafts does not sell craft supplies directly and I've been unable to find an online source for the items you've mentioned. But, many craft stores will special order items for you if you ask to speak to the manager -- particularly if you're willing to purchase a rather large quantity.

-- Contributed by: Danahindersi am looking for a place to buy the plastic ornament balls that open in the middle instead of the top. they usually have them here at Hobby Lobby or sometimes, Michaels but i can only get a few at a time. I am looking to buy a big quantity at once. Do you know anywhere that I might be able to get these craft ornaments?
-- Contributed by: connie dymekI am looking for small hollow plastic boxes that I can decorate as gift box ornaments for the tree, as Christmas gifts for next year. Do you have them, or can you order them? I am talking about quite a few.
