Make Your Own Bib Patterns
If you are feeling especially creative, making your own baby bib sewing patterns is not terribly difficult to do. By simply choosing a bib from your baby's collection that you like and laying it out on a bit of tracing paper, newspaper, or tissue paper and tracing its outline, you are well on your way to your own creation.
Once you have the traced outline, trace a seam allowance around the edge. Generally, an inch or so is sufficient room for edge finishing and hemming your bib. This pattern can then be used as a basis for any number of designs, trimmed with lace or decorated with appliqués, embroidered, cross stitched, or ruffled.
Using this same pattern with a variety of fabrics can create very different looks. Terry cloth is practical and absorbent, while a pretty flowered fabric makes that layer of clothes protection look more like a fashion accessory.
Whether you make your patterns, buy them, or download them from the Internet, sewing your own baby bibs can be a great project for the expectant mother getting ready to welcome the new addition, or for those soon to be big brothers or sisters. Baby bibs are often great sellers at craft fairs, from the pretty and pink lacy ones to those proudly pronouncing “It's a Boy.” A simple and flexible project, baby bib designs are limited only by your imagination. Happy sewing!
