With the price of postage rising all the time, do you find yourself sending fewer cards? I used to send handmade cards for every occasion, but now I’m afraid I do a lot more e-cards than anything else. Even my Christmas card list has shrunk due to the cost of mailing to everyone.

I agree with you on that Dana. I also send a lot more ecards than anything else. The prices of postage is going up so quickly - in fact it seems the prices of everything is going up very quickly!

With Christmas fast approaching, just wanted to bump this back up for more opinions. I’m thinking about my Christmas card list and trying to decide who merits the price of a stamp and the effort it takes to make a card! (I promise I’m not really as cheap as that sounds, but the holidays are just getting too darn expensive!)

Yeah, it really is crazy.  I remember (I think) when a stamp was 22 cents.  It seems like it goes up every year, and it does make you think twice about sending out 75 holiday cards.

I think you mentioned the idea of post cards in another thread, and that might be a good way to be economical about Christmas cards.

Really, if you’re careful when you buy card-making materials, the stamp will likely be the most expensive part of the whole thing.

The stamp is the most expensive part of card making! So very true! And, this is actually why I’m hesitant to send Christmas cards each year. I always feel like I could be spending that money on other things. Of course, I did just get our family pictures back—so I need a way to distribute those to people we don’t see on a regular basis. If I’m going to have to mail them anyway, I might as well make a Christmas card to send them in. Right?

Yeah, that’s usually where I find myself too.  I want to send photos to everyone, and I think Christmas cards are a great way to stay connected with family.  It’s just hard to do it economically.

Will you be making your cards this year, Dana?  I’ve only done that one year, and that was before my son was born.  Thinking about doing it this year, though, to cut down on the expense.
