For those of you who have Michaels craft stores nearby, they are hosting daily events in early May for kids to make Mother’s Day projects. The events are free and include projects like paper bouquets, jewelry, and cookie decorating. Most of the events are in the afternoon or evening but might be differnt in each store.

We’ve gone to some of their holiday craft events for kids and it fills up fast, so get there early if you’re going.

The Michaels website has more info.

What a wonderful idea! Unfortunately, there is no Micheal’s near my town and I don’t believe Hobby Lobby does the same type of thing. The best Mother’s Day craft events I’ve heard of are at the local churches and the library’s story hour.

That’s pretty cool. I’ll have to nudge the hubby to take the kiddo to check it out.  She loves doing any kinds of crafts anyway.

It is really a great event. All the supplies are free and they have staff members who are in the room to help the kids. If only they sold coffee in the store, it would make for a great afternoon out with a take-home gift.

I just found out about a similar though smaller project going on at Home Depot. On May 2, they are hosting a kids workshop to make a wheel barrow planter. These are more hands-on with a parent helper than the Michaels crafts tend to be, but it’s a fun event my son loved when he went to one last year. Most Home Depots have a workshop like this every month.

I was actually considering Home Depot or Lowe’s for some projects to challenge and teach the kiddo—I figure it wouldn’t hurt to teach me a few things either.

I was at Michaels today and I picked up a flyer about their Mother’s Day crafts. Here’s what they have planned:

May 3-T-shirt for Mom
May 4-Corsage
May 5-Paper flower bouquet
May 6-Coupon book
May 7-Cardmaking
May 8-Wooden frame
May 9-Bead event
May 10-Cookie decorating

The Michael’s events sounds like fun. I passed the information and schedule on to my daughter and daughter-in-law and I think they are going to take their little ones together to the T-shirt and cookie decorating events. grin

Great info! I checked with our local Michael’s and they will have many of these events. So I told my daughter I’d take her and she’s all excited!

My husband took our son to the craft event on Saturday and they made a really cute necklace and some crazy earrings. The necklace has three charms on it and is cute and practical. The earrings, on the other hand, are huge and dangly with big rhinestones. But they had fun and it was free.

This is a really great way for bonding with kids. Will definitely try this one this weekend.
