Am I the only one who finds this Thanksgiving craft disturbing?

Okay, so I’m a big Martha Stewart fan.  I read the magazine, try the crafts, and always feel woefully inadequate when my work doesn’t end up quite as nice as hers.  And I always, always think of her as tasteful.  Until now.

Check out the Roast Turkey Baby Costume.  I think you’ll see what I mean.  Is anyone else a little creeped out?  Maybe amused at the same time?

I’m all for dressing babies as lobsters, hot dogs, and other food items, yet for some reason, this turkey costume has the potential to give me nightmares.  Perhaps it’s the idea of the carving knife.  smile

Has anyone ever dressed up a baby as food?  Does this sound like a fun craft to you?  Really, I won’t judge.

Hi Kate - I have to agree with you on this - Although some people may think itis cute I wouldn’t dress my baby up like a roasted turkey laying on a plate! Or the one featured on the same page as the baby as a cooked lobster laying on a plate. Perhaps a child that is walking may be able to make the costume work but not a baby that just lays there looking like Thanksgiving dinner! grrr

I did dress up my daughter (now 40) as a pumpkin when she was 1 - I made the costume and stuffed it full of crumpled newspaper to make her really round. It was really cute!

My son was born the day after Thanksgiving and got a prize basket from the hospital for being the local Thanksgiving baby. And, we like to tease him about being our Thanksgiving turkey all the time! But, I’m with you—this costume is totally creepy!

Yeah, it’s weird to me. An upright, walking cartoony-style turkey would be okay, but having a baby on a platter for any reason strikes me as poor taste. Let’s make a rule that no on dresses like a meal. I can’t think of any reason why someone would do it.
