While I was flipping through the latest issue of Family Fun magazine, I saw an article with that classic camp craft where you wrap glue soaked yarn over a big balloon to make an abstract sort of basket. I got to thinking that the same process should work with a knitted item. So, I took a knitted baby hat I made on my Knifty Knitter, stretched it around an old peanut can, and covered it in school glue. When it dried, I had a cute little basket for storing supplies in my craft room. (It’s not as sturdy as a wicker basket or a plastic storage box, but it’s fairly durable.) |

I love the idea of doing this. How did the glue dry? Was it tacky or could you see globs of hard glue on the yarn? I’m always looking for containers that I can use for my sons smaller toys, like cars and action figures. I wonder if I could makea couple of these in complimentary colors for his room. |

The glue wasn’t tacky at all and you couldn’t really see it when it dried. The yarn just sort of “sucks” it right up! The only thing is that you need to use A LOT of glue. It took almost a whole bottle to do my tiny basket, so buy lots if you’re going to try to make something bigger. |

Dana that is a great idea - I am going to try it with a few things and if they come out right I will use them as basket/gift bags that I will fill with special little gifts. |

Oh, I think these would make great gift bags! Fill them with shredded paper or something and they’d be adorable. Thanks for the idea! I’ve been trying to lose weight, so I’m knitting whenever I feel the urge to eat. I need to come up with some cool projects, because there are only so many hats and scarves a girl needs, you know? |

I keep thinking about this and can’t wait to try it. We’re moving in two weeks and I’ve promised myself that I won’t create anything new to pack, so I’m waiting after the move, but I’d like to make a couple in different sizes for keeping little trinkets in. |
