Left handed difficulty

I would love to be able to crochet correctly, but as a left handed person I find it very difficult to follow instructions in all the books I’ve seen. (This is also why I can only knit with the Knifty Knitter—holding knitting needles left handed never seems to work for me.)

Does anyone know of crochet or knitting books written specifically for left handed crafters?

Ideas for Holiday Letters

I confess that I’m one of those people who sends out a holiday letter with my Christmas card. Usually, I just use a color printer to print a design on the top of a piece of paper, but this year, I was thinking it would be fun to do something more crafty. Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe stamps?

I wondered… what was a favorite homemade gift you received from a child? I know any handmade gift from a child you love is special… but did you receive something that was particularly wonderful?

Ideas for teaching scissor skills

Apparently, my son’s preschool teacher thinks he’s a bit behind in the scissors skills department. I’ve been trying to get him interested in practicing using the scissors, but he’s just not taking the bait. He says it’s boring and he’d rather play with his cars and trucks. And, he gets frustrated really easily when the cutting doesn’t go as well as he wants. Any ideas to encourage him?

Using eco-friendly gifts

If you give eco-friendly gifts or send recyclable cards, do you think the recipient follows through on whatever they need to do to keep the gift “green?” I’ve thought about buying canvas bags and stamping them with the recipient’s initials or objects that they like, but I worry that they’d end up in a closet for a few years and then just thrown away. The same thing can apply to those cards that have seeds in them. If the person who receives it doesn’t plant it, it defeats the whole purpose.

If you receive an eco-friendly gift, do you use it as intended?

Things to make for stocking stuffers

Stockings are my favorite part of Christmas, but stuffing them certainly gets expensive! I like to look for cool things at the dollar store, but I was wondering if anyone has a few ideas for little crafts to put in stockings. I found instructions for how to make snowglobe soap online. It’s a cute project, but I’ve never actually made soap before. My other idea was the homemade crayons in Christmas shapes, but I’d love to hear any suggestions you have—- especially if your family does stockings for teens and adults too!

Has anyone else ever strung popcorn and cranberries?

I was thinking about something that my mother, myself and my daughter did about 35 years ago. My mother had the great idea that we should all string popcorn and cranberries to put around the tree as garland. It sounded fun and easy….it sure was fun but ut wasn’t easy! For some reason we all had a heck of a time getting the it all together…..but we had a lot of laughs and my daughter and I have a great memory of “Nana” at her kitchen table with us.
Has anyone else ever made this?

I keep thinking of projects that I’d like to try if I had a sewing machine. I’m a complete beginner. Can anyone recommend a good one that isn’t too expensive and is easy enough to use for a newbie?
