My husband has a gigantic collection of t-shirts. Some even date back to when he was in high school! I’m getting really tired of trying find room to put away laundry in his THREE DRAWERS OF T-SHIRTS, so I’ve finally put my foot down. He’s kind of a sentimental guy, though, and he doesn’t want to get rid of the shirts entirely.

I was thinking it might be fun to make him a quilt out of the t-shirts. Has anyone ever done this?

We’re just getting ready to move my son into a big boy bed, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a very simple quilt I could make. I’m going with kind of an outdoor theme in his room. His walls are light blue, and we’re going to be using vinyl decals of trees on the walls. Any ideas?

Part of the reason I have never actually completed anything but baby quilts is that my grandmother taught me that quilts must be sewn entirely by hand. When you’re talking about a small project, that’s not that big a deal. I like hand sewing as much as the next girl. But when it comes to an entire bed-sized quilt, well…I’ve been working on one for about ten years now.

Does anyone have any opinions about this? Should quilts be sewn by hand?

One of my favorite blogs, Dollar Store Crafts, recently had a post about making a quilt from bandannas. I’m terrible at sewing, but it looks like a fun project for someone interested in quilting. And, since the bandannas come in so many different colors, you could make it find almost any decor scheme.

What are some alternatives to quilt hooks for displaying small to medium sized quilts? We live in a rental and I’d rather not drill holes into the wall for hanging up a few quilted pieces I’ve picked up. Tossing decorative ones over the sofa looks sort of silly in our place because our sofa has a pattern, making it look too busy. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

When I was pregnant with my son 6 years ago, I read an article that mentioned making a quilt with pieces of outgrown baby clothes. I know have boxes and boxes of baby clothes that I’ve been pushing around for years since I’ve never found the time to do this. Have any of you tried this? Any ideas of how to get it started?

I love the look of handmade quilts and I’ve always wanted to try quilting. But, I’m afraid my house is already filled with craft supplies! What items would I need to start quilting and how much space is required to work on a project? How do I keep my toddler and the cat from destroying my work in progress? Right now, I scrapbook, make cards, bead, and do a little knitting. All of these are very tempting distractions as it is, so I don’t want to create more of a reason for the little rascals to get in trouble.
